A Tip All Drivers Should Know

Have you ever seen those metal circles engrained in the road right before an intersection. Well, ever wonder what they are for?

We’ve all seen them and ignored them and now you can all find out what they are for. I am nearly certain that they are detectors which determine when to change the traffic light to green.

There are usually two sets in every lane, one right next to the crosswalk, and one more farther back. So, what I usually do is leave a large gap between me and the car in front of me, so that he is placed on the first detector and I on the second one farther back. I’ve seen a lot of people around me looking at me like I’m an idiot but I know that I have a purpose for doing it, and it works.

This procedure is most effective for those lights that have the green left arrow that doesn’t always turn on. If you don’t feel like waiting for your turn, having only two cars make their left turn every cycle of the light, simply stop your car on the detector that is farther back. As soon as the light changes, instead of it being a green light to initiate traffic in both directions, your side will get the green arrow, and then you can speed off and watch everyone else suffer in traffic.
